Allow me to step aboard the bandwagon for a moment. A friend pointed out this competition to me:
[link] I thought it sounded fun. So I glanced over the official rules...This is where the bandwagon comes in.
You hereby agree that in consideration of your being allowed the chance to enter the Contest, you hereby grant Blizzard Entertainment, Inc., a perpetual, non-exclusive, worldwide license and right to utilize the entry materials that you submit to Sponsor in connection with the Contest (collectively, "Entry Materials"). The Entry Materials will not be returned to any entrant. Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, you acknowledge that Sponsor shall have the right to use, modify, reproduce, publish, perform, display, distribute, make derivative works of and otherwise commercially and noncommercially exploit the Entry Materials in perpetuity and throughout the universe, in any manner or medium now existing or hereafter developed, without separate compensation to you or any other person or entity. You agree to take, at Sponsor's expense, any further action (including, without limitation, execution of affidavits and other documents) reasonably requested by Sponsor to effect, perfect or confirm Sponsor's rights as set forth above in this paragraph 7.
I've seen a lot of journals recently complaining about this sort of issue: artists rights and the like. I hadn't actually come across hard evidence....Man, what a bitch of a contract. As far as I can tell, you enter a piece (you don't have to win, just enter), and Blizzard own your soul. Or at least, they can do whatever the hell they like with your art, for as long as they please, with no repayment of any kind. WHAT THE FREAKIN" HELL. Seriously, that's a bastard of a contract. I just feel sorry for all the people who skim over the fine print and sell away artwork that could honestly earn them a lot of money (I'm guessing Blizzards looking for cover art and the like. You could earn a ton off've the cover art for a game like WOW. Instead they're oferring the chance for a sword, an awesome sord I would love to have, but one worth less then 300 dollar).
Yay for evil corporation hating. Remind me to always read the shit I sign.
Anyways enough bitching, I'm gonna go back to studying so's I can become a big shot lawyer and help the big evil corporations screw more people XD.
